Boston, MA: Over 300 Gather for Local Environmental Action:
27th annual Local Environmental Action conference

Once again, we joined with the Mass. Climate Action Network to hold New England’s largest gathering of grassroots activists this year at Northeastern University. The 27th annual Local Environmental Action conference attracted nearly 350 activists for a day of learning, inspiration and movement building.

75 groups co-sponsored this year’s event. From neighbors working to retire New England’s last coal-fired power plants to those working to make their town more energy efficient, the day provided opportunities for activists working on issues across the spectrum to connect, learn from each other and expand their knowledge of New England’s most pressing environmental issues.

This year’s recipient of the Judy Bonds Memorial Award was Westfield Concerned Citizens, who have worked for the past four years to stop a new dirty gas energy plant from being built in their community. Already overburdened by air pollution from a nearby coal-fired power plant, incinerator and airport, residents organized to stand up to the developer and are now celebrating a near-victory.
