CT: Citizen's Press Conference at New England Energy Summit: Activists Gather to Call for a Clean Energy Future
Despite having no fracked gas drilling, the gas industry’s influence is still strong in New England. This year, Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy hosted an energy summit of five New England governors to address energy challenges facing the region. Toxics Action Center Lead Organizer Claire Miller worked with community leaders from across New England to gather for a citizen’s press conference outside the summit while the governors met behind closed doors. Together, Claire and the community leaders announced nearly 50 endorsements of their campaign for a safe and clean energy future and expressed discontent with a decision-making process that has been entirely closed to citizen input. The newest proposal by Spectra Energy includes even more expansion along the fracked gas pipeline as it cuts through Connecticut, and we will continue to work with communities to fight it.
