Stronger Together:
Rhode Islanders Fight Spectra’s Dirty Energy Proposals

It wasn’t enough for Kathy Martley and Burrillville Against Spectra Expansion (BASE) to face Spectra’s gas pipeline expansion. When a new gas-fired power plant was also proposed for Burrillville, BASE knew they had to stop it, too. Kathy and her neighbors are now working hard to protect their community from the proposed plant’s harmful impacts on people’s health, the environment and the climate. “In a group, all together, we can make a difference—that’s one thing people are learning,” Kathy said.

Together, Kathy and her neighbors pressured Gov. Gina Raimondo to meet them in Burrillville, R.I., passed a town resolution against the plant, and are now helping residents in nearby towns pass similar measures. We’re grateful for your continued backing of groups like BASE, which allows them to keep up the fight to protect the people and places they love.
